FEATURING:

ZEDS DEAD

http://www.facebook.com/whoszed (Toronto)
http://soundcloud.com/zedsdead
DC and Hooks are Zeds Dead. They first hooked up in 2004 and formed Mass Productions. Influenced by the digging in the crates sampling school of hip hop, Mass Productions released one independent album in the summer of 2007 entitled Fresh Beetz. It was their first and only release. In the summer of 2009, the two launched their second collaboration – Zeds Dead – turning up the bpm and aiming the bass-lines at the dance-floor. Soon after Zeds Dead (alongside the Killabits) founded a weekly party in Toronto called BassMentality. Guests have included Nero, Skrillex, 12th Planet, Borgore, Mary Anne Hobbs, Plastician, Netsky, and many more. Two of the hardest workers in electronic music, Zeds Dead’s tireless efforts have earned them an excellent reputation amongst a new generation of producers as artists without borders – genres hold no bearing over their music as they transcend style and form with ease. By pulling from a vast array of source material (Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Sublime), and molding it into their unique brand of dance-floor classics, They have established themselves as a dominant force in EDM circles and have received recognition and praise from tastemakers worldwide. With a stockpile of originals and remixes set to be released in 2011, DC and Hooks show no signs of slowing down. Catch them live and you’ll know: Zeds Dead is here to stay

TERRAVITA

http://www.facebook.com/terravitabass (Boston)
http://soundcloud.com/terravita
Terravita is probably best known as the dubstep alter ego of electro
power house Hot Pink Delorean, but the trio of Chris Barlow, Matt Simmers
and Jon Spero were making bass music for years before trying their hands at
house music. The group was first picked up in 2006 by Maldini & Vegas’s Bad
Taste Recordings, releasing 4 tunes with them on their Bad Taste 2 LP. Shortly thereafter Simon Bassline Smith signed the group to a deal with his Technique Recordings label. Terravita released 4 singles with Technique before parting ways including the jump up hit “Adult Robot Kung Fu”. Since parting ways with Technique, Terravita has released several tunes with Subsonik Sound as well as a remix of AK1200′s rave anthem “Drowning” that hit #4 on the Beatport Drum & Bass Charts. In November of 2010, Terravita released “Up In the Club” on Beta Recordings, which hit #4 on the Dubstep charts and #94 on the Overall charts on Beatport, while “Lockdown” broke the top 10 on Beatport’s dubstep charts. In January of 2011, Terravita release their debut EP on Rottun. “Freak Out” and “The Beat Goes On” both hit #6 on Beatport’s dubstep charts, while “Break The System” hit #2 on Beatport’s dubstep charts. In March of 2011, Terravita did it again with a remix of Tremourz & J.Rabbit’s “Sexy Party” which held down the #1 spot on Beatport’s dnb charts for over a month. The group has had support all over dance music radio, including on BBC Radio 1 from Kissy Sell Out. Forthcoming releases for Terravita are “Up In The Club” on Jaguar Skills Toolroom Knights compilation and “Lockdown” on CR2′s Ibiza Dubstep compilation, as well as another 4 track EP on Rottun and a huge remix of Datsik & Bare’s “King Kong”. Watch for forthcoming collaborations between Terravita & Bassnectar, Terravita & Datsik and Terravita & Borgore!!!

B.RICH

(Trouble & Bass, Party Like Us) San Francisco
http://www.facebook.com/brichbass

B. Rich (aka Barrett Richards) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is one of America’s welcome purveyors of bass-heavy club music. After growing up with a love of hip hop he got into producing and DJ at a young age while being influenced by early 90s rave and dance artists such as Moby, Altern-8 and The Prodigy. Now with over 15 years of experience he is performing regularly throughout North America with one European tour under his belt and an Australian tour later this year. With an a strong ability to read a crowd his sets are known to fly all over the map. They can go between house, bassline, funky, garage and dubstep all with a unifying element: huge low end frequencies. When behind the tables he shows the signs of an artist and performer who truly loves their work. He has become a much sought after remixer for various styles, ranging from big dubstep club bangers to percussive and bass heavy 4/4 dance floor hits. His crisp production style has been shared with labels such as Ultra Records, Ministry of Sound, Scion A/V and Palms Out Sounds. Whether it’s at the club or on BBC Radio 1, you can hear his tracks being played and supported by some of the heaviest selectors and tastemakers across the world.

DESIGNER DRUGS | FRIDAY 9/16/2011

DESIGNER DRUGS @ Toads Place w/ HighLife + More!

Friday at 9:00pm - Saturday at 2:00am

Toad’s Place 300 York St. New Haven, CT

DESIGNER DRUGS

After nearly 50 remixes for everyone from Mariah Carey to Annie to Thieves Like Us, the diverse electronic group, comprised of Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson, released their debut album HARDCORE/SOFTCORE on Ultra Records in February 2011.

Where past productions and remixes have been on the poppier end of the musical spectrum, Hardcore conjures up a darker, edgier vibe – think the throbbing, industrial-heavy opening club scene in “The Doom Generation” – yet still retains a melodic center on many of the tracks. “I think we’re making music for the apocalypse,” says Michael, only half-joking. “The state of society is at a place where people just don’t give a fuck and that’s what inspires our music.”

School hasn’t stopped the group from putting on memorable live sets as much as possible. Spend a few minutes at one of DESIGNER DRUGS’ live shows and you’ll see the normally humble pair, spurred on by the intense energy of their music, transform into a different beast. “It gets pretty wild,” admits Michael. “Even though we’re mellow, there’s lots of stage diving and almost slam dancing. It’s next level dance club shit that almost morphs into that ‘90s hardcore/punk vibe.”
